壁のように閉ざされた波止場を開くために、海と町を繋ぐ”島の入口” を提案し、「ターミナル（終点）」を「ポータル（始まり）」に変えて、西郷港をO島の玄関口としてもう一度見直しました。神社と繋ぐ参道を海までつなぎ、既存のターミナルの最上階をコ・リビング施設へと改修することを提案しています。また、地元の小規模な店舗を支援するための実験市場も提案しました。島の時間を「島時計」により再設計し、島全の穏やかな時間と空間の変化を五感で体感出きる場所によって、地元の原住民、移住者、旅行者を繋ぐ提案を行いました。
To open up the existing walled up habour front we propose a few potential “doorways”, transforming the “terminal” (end) to a “portal” (beginning), to make Saigo harbour a true “front porch” of Okino Islands. This includes continuing the Sando to the water edge, renovating the existing terminal building into a co-living dormitory, introducing an experimental market structure to help the small local business to thrive, and most of all to redesign the island’s “time”, reuniting the island by means of the soft transient of time and space, bringing native local citizens, new residents and visitors as one.
